You might say this song put this artist “on the map”. After 19 releases between early 1974 & late 1982 with only 1 of those reaching the Top 10 & only 4 reaching the Top 15, this tune became a breakout smash. Hitting the airwaves 03/17/1984, this song spent 22 weeks on the charts & reached #1, his 1st Top 5 & 1st chart topper. This tune sparked a string of 17 Top 10 songs, of which 6 were chart toppers & 11 were Top 5 hits.

This song hit the airwaves on my 19th birthday, 09/19/1992, spent 20 weeks on the charts & peaked at #6. At the time, it stopped a string of 4 straight chart toppers, all of which had claimed the top spot for multiple weeks. The string included their debut single, 1991’s “Brand New Man” (2 weeks), 1991’s “My Next Broken Heart” (2 weeks), 1992’s “Neon Moon” (2 weeks) & 1992’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” (4 weeks).
