Dan Seals (previously featured HERE) & Marie Osmond (previously featured HERE) teamed up for a 1985 duet, “Meet Me In Montana”, which claimed #1 that year & sparked a string of 9 straight chart toppers for Seals & ignited a string of 4 straight Top 10s for Osmond, 3 of which claimed #1. These 2 songs are lesser known.

#1 “Factory Town” | Dan Seals
The brother of Jim Seals (Seals & Croft), Dan had his own pop success as part of the England Dan & John Ford Coley duo. Upon switching to the country genre, Dan’s 1st Top 5 tune was 1984-5’s “My Baby’s Got Good Timing” (2 weeks at #2); that was followed by 1985’s “My Old Yellow Car” (#9; a popular tune for me!) & then the aforementioned duet with Osmond. This song, from his 7th studio album ‘Rage On’ (released June 1988), is 1 of my favorites from the record (yes, I have it on VINYL!), even though it was never officially released as a single. It tells the plight of small towns which rely on a major employer for the local economy. Successful songs from the album were 1988’s “Addicted” (#1) & 1988-9’s “Big Wheels In The Moonlight” (#1), both part of the streak of 9 straight #1 tunes. Another favorite from this album is “A Heartache Just Around The Bend”.

#2 “Raining Tears” | Marie Osmond
The sister of The Osmond Brothers, Marie co-hosted TV’s “Donny & Marie”, hosted her own TV series, co-hosted TV’s “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” & starred in TV’s “Maybe This Time” (with Betty White). Her singing career started with 1973’s “Paper Roses” (#1 for 2 weeks on the country charts; #5 on the Billboard Hot 100). This song, from her 7th studio album ‘All In Love’ (released in 1988), is 1 of my favorites from the record (I have it on CD). I’ve often wondered if this song might’ve fared better on the charts than the 3 songs that were released as singles: 1988’s “Without A Trace” (#50), 1988’s “Sweet Life” (#47; duet with Paul Davis) & 1988-9’s “I’m In Love & He’s In Dallas” (#59). Another favorite from this album is “99% Of The Time”.  LINK TO VIDEO:
