‘Mathnet’ is a segment from “Square 1 Television”, created & broadcast by PBS, 01/26/1987-11/06/1992. “S1T” featured many skits, most parodies of actual shows: ‘General Mathpital’ parodied “General Hospital”, ‘Nobody’s Inn’ parodied “Fawlty Towers” & ‘Late Afternoon With David Numberman’ parodied “Late Night With David Letterman”. ‘Mathnet’, a parody of the popular “Dragnet”, featured mathematicians using mathematical skills to solve crimes & mysteries. Each story spanned 5 episodes, generally 1 complete broadcast week, Monday-Friday. The building where filming happened in California is at 6045 York Blvd, which now houses a museum about the LAPD & was formerly used in other series, including “The Rockford Files”. The cast includes Beverly Leech as “Kate Monday” (Seasons 1-3), Joe Howard as “George Frankly” (all 5 seasons; his wife “Martha” is mentioned but never seen-heard), Toni DiBuono as “Pat Tuesday” (Seasons 4-5), James Earl Jones as “Thad Green” (Season 4), Mary Watson as “Debbie Williams” (Season 4), Emilio Del Pozo as “Joe Greco” (Season 3) & Bari K Willerford as “Benny Pill” (Season 3). Guest stars include Kevin McCarthy, Geoffrey Lewis, Dick Sargent, Marcia Wallace, Jayne Meadows, Weird Al Yankovic, Wayne Knight, Betty Buckley, among many others.
