‘Independence Day’ is an American epic, science fiction film that hit theaters 07/02/1996, a day earlier than planned due to anticipation of moviegoers. Co-written & directed by Roland Emmerich, who came up with the idea for the film while answering a question about his belief in alien life while promoting ‘Stargate’, the movie opened to mixed reviews but became the highest-grossing film of the year. Excitement for the movie started way back on 01/28/1996 when a dramatic commercial for the film aired during Super Bowl 30. Now, the movie is thought of as a significant turning point in the history of the “Hollywood blockbuster”. Later this year, 09/22/2016, a special live-orchestral screening performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall will celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary. The cast includes Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch, Robert Loggia, Randy Quaid, Margaret Colin, Vivica A Fox, James Rebhorn, Harvey Fierstein, Adam Baldwin, Brent Spiner, James Duval, Lisa Jakub, Giuseppe Andrews, Ross Bagley, Mae Whitman, Bill Smitrovich, Kiersten Warren, Harry Connick Jr & Frank Welker.
