Chicago Stadium opened in 1929 (interior image ~1930) & closed in 1994 (demolished in 1995). Known as the “Madhouse on Madison”, it served as the home of the NHL Blackhawks (1929-1994) & the NBA Bulls (1967-1994). Sports promotor Paddy Harmon, who lost out on a chance to own Chicago’s NHL team, arranged for the Stadium to be built to house that team. Detroit’s Olympia stadium (built 2 years earlier) was a model for Chicago Stadium, which, when opened, was the largest indoor arena in the world. Due to a snowstorm & frigid temperatures, Chicago Stadium hosted the 1932 NFL Championship Game between the Chicago Bears & Portsmouth Spartans (later Detroit Lions); Bears won 9-0. During its time, the building hosted various sporting events, concerts, etc.
