ALBUM:
‘Greatest Hits’, 1988
ARTIST:
The Judds
[For more about this duo’s hits & history, check the 09/19/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 03/02/2016 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 11/05/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This record (which I own on vinyl) was released in 1988 & features 10 songs. Side A has 1984’s “Why Not Me” (#1, 2 weeks; CMA Single Of The Year & Country Vocal Duo Grammy), 1986’s “Rockin’ With The Rhythm Of The Rain” (#1), 1984’s “Mama He’s Crazy” (#1; Country Vocal Duo Grammy), 1988’s “Give A Little Love” (#2, 2 weeks; Country Vocal Duo Grammy) & 1986’s “Grandpa” (#1; Country Vocal Duo & Country Song Grammys). Side B features 1985’s “Have Mercy” (#1, 2 weeks), 1988-9’s “Change Of Heart” (#1), 1985’s “Girls Night Out” (#1), 1986-7’s “Cry Myself To Sleep” (#1) & 1985’s “Love Is Alive” (#1).

FEATURE SONG # 1:
“Grandpa”
This is 1 of those songs just about everyone can identify with in some way, shape or form. When this song debuted, I hadn’t yet gotten into “vintage” things, even though many people called me an “old soul”; if I had, I might’ve enjoyed this song more then. But, I enjoy it a lot now. Debuting 02/15/1986, this tune spent 20 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. It also earned the duo 2 Grammys: Country Song & Country Vocal Duo. At the time, it was their 6th straight chart topper, a string that started with 1984’s “Mama He’s Crazy” & ended at 8 with 1986-7’s “Cry Myself To Sleep” (#1).

FEATURE SONG # 2:
“Have Mercy”
This fun song hit the airwaves 10/05/1985 & spent 22 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1. It was the release prior to “Grandpa” & the 5th chart topper in the string of 8 that was only stopped by 1987’s “Don’t Be Cruel”, which notched at #10. 3 more chart toppers immediately followed that 1987 remake.
