‘The Bad News Bears’ is a sports comedy film that debuted in theaters 04/07/1976. Written by Bill Lancaster, the movie was directed by Michael Ritchie & filmed in & around Los Angeles CA, primarily in the San Fernando Valley. The field on which they played is in Mason Park on Chatsworth’s Mason Avenue. The motion picture received positive critical reviews & did well at the box office, despite … & perhaps thanks to … the amount of what was considered at that time as vulgarity, mostly used for comedic effect. However, some scenes (such as when a drunk drives the un-seatbelted players in an open-top convertible with a broken windshield) would not be allowed today. The cast includes: Walter Matthau, Vic Morrow, Joyce Van Patten, Ben Piazza, Scott Firestone, David Stambaugh, Jackie Earle Haley, Quinn Smith, Gary Lee Cavagnaro, Jaime Escobedo, George Gonzales, Brett Marx, Alfred W Lutter, David Pollock, Tatum O’Neal, Chris Barnes, Erin Blunt & Brandon Cruz. 2 sequels followed: 1977’s ‘The Bad News Bears In Breaking Training’ & 1978’s ‘The Bad News Bears Go To Japan’. A short-lived CBS TV series ran for 1 season, 1979-1980.
