My last road trip was mid-2011’s “Coast-To-Coast” journey, during which I traveled from IL to PA, then back to IL, down through OK & out west to UT, WA & OR & back across the Dakotas & MN. While in the greater Denver CO area 07/03/2011, I met Jay (pictured here with me) & his wife at Johnson’s Corner for some famous cinnamon rolls.

Last week, I received word Jay died. Recently diagnosed with ALS, he was admitted into a hospital Wednesday, 03/30/2016. The doctors did some procedures & things were looking up, but while on a walk that Friday evening, Jay’s oxygen dropped considerably low, making him uncomfortable. By Saturday, it was worse for him & he was taken off all life-saving machines & made comfortable. He had a good Sunday, then died peacefully Monday, 04/04/2016. It’s been 5 years since that trip & the count of those who’ve died since keeps growing; I know this shouldn’t be a surprise, but it is still painful. I’m just glad I took the time to do all of my road trips when I could.

Sorry to hear about Jay. Sounds like you got to have some delicious cinnamon rolls together on the trip, so that’s a nice memory to have with him.
Thank you, Ben. Yes, we sure did … he & his wife insisted on meeting there so I could try the famous cinnamon rolls. As I recall, I actually had some left over that I took for breakfast the next morning!
