‘Silent Movie’ is a satirical comedy co-written, directed by & starring Mel Brooks; it debuted in theaters 06/17/1976. Except for music & 1 spoken word (ironically by Marcel Marceau, a noted mime), this film is completely silent, a parody of the silent film genre. The score is also part of the humor; for instance, in 1 scene, the New York City skyline is visible but the band plays the song “San Francisco”. Realizing their mistake, the music comes to an abrupt halt & the musicians play “I’ll Take Manhattan”. Along with Brooks & Marceau, the cast includes Dom DeLuise, Marty Feldman, Bernadette Peters, Sid Caesar, Harold Gould, Ron Carey, Burt Reynolds, James Caan, Liza Minnelli, Anne Bancroft, Paul Newman, Harry Ritz, Liam Dunn, Carol Arthur, Yvonne Wilder, Charlie Callas, Fritz Feld, Valerie Curtin, Henny Youngman & Phil Leeds.
