#1 “Can’t Fight This Feeling” | REO Speedwagon
My 2nd favorite of this band, behind “Time For Me To Fly” (previously featured HERE), this power ballad hit the airwaves 01/23/1985 from their album ‘Wheels Are Turnin’’ & claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 3 straight weeks 2 months later, 03/09-23/1985; it was this band’s 2nd BH 100 chart topper, behind 1981’s “Keep On Loving You”. This tune also reached #3 on the Adult Contemporary & #5 on the Top Rock Tracks charts. Internationally, it reached the Top 10 on several other charts, including #2 in Australia, #5 in Ireland & #8 in S Africa.

#2 “Is There Life Out There” | Reba McEntire
I love the message within this song; I’ve often asked the same question, albeit more in reference to road trips! That’s why I’m featuring it here, even though I’ve showcased McEntire many times before, including this 07/01/2015 entry HERE & 2 more features earlier this year: 06/25/2016 HERE & 07/20/2016 HERE. This song debuted 01/25/1992 & spent 20 weeks on the charts, 2 of those at #1. It was preceded by 1991’s “For My Broken Heart” (#1, 2 weeks; dedicated to her tour manager & 7 members of her band, killed in a plane crash, 03/16/1991) & followed by 1992’s “The Night The Lights Went Out In GA” (#12) & 1992’s “The Greatest Man I Never Knew” (#3). This song’s video (below) is noted as being 1 of the 1st in country music to include significant dialogue to illustrate the music’s storyline. Portions of the video were filmed at Nashville TN’s Belmont University. While CMT complained the video put “message ahead of music”, the video won the 1992 Academy Of Country Music Video Of The Year award. 2 years later, Reba starred in a 10/09/1994 CBS-TV movie (same name) based on the song’s storyline.
