Day 7, 09/11/2009, of my Route 66 road trip started in Amarillo TX & ended in Moriarty NM, with notable stops along the way in Vega TX, Adrian TX (MidPoint Cafe), Glenrio TX, Tucumcari NM (Blue Swallow Motel), Santa Rosa NM & Clines Corners NM. As with other days, I arrived at my scheduled end destination early, so I was able to snap a few extra photos, relax in my hotel room & have an interesting dinner conversation with the owner of Angelas Pizza, an at-the-time “newcomer” to Route 66. As with prior days I’ve featured here, it was difficult to choose 1 pic. However, this is & has been 1 of my favorites:
Just after noon local time & ~10 minutes removed from a time change & the TX-NM state line, I almost zoomed past this building, but it caught my eye. It was sitting in the middle of a field. No other buildings were in sight. As with other abandoned buildings along Route 66, I wondered what kind of life it once held … how long it was in use … how long it had been abandoned. FYI: the motor home on the left is headed west on I-40.
Speaking of road trips, I saw this article over on Jalopnik and thought you might appreciate it:
