THEME = movie tunes: ‘A Summer Place’, ‘Against All Odds’ & ‘Arthur’

Coinciding with “Theatre Thursday” (10p US central), each Thursday edition of “CD Showcase Memories” will feature several movie songs.

#1 ‘A Summer Place’
From this 1959 film, Percy Faith’s recording is the most-popular version, having spent an at-the-time record 9 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1960. It remains the longest-running #1 instrumental in the chart’s history.

FYI: this movie (based on Sloan Wilson’s 1958 novel of the same name) stars Richard Egan, Dorothy McGuire, Troy Donahue & Sandra Dee.

#2 ‘Against All Odds’
From this 1984 film, Phil Collins created this power ballad specifically for the movie. This single hit the airwaves 02/25/1984 & claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 & the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, while reaching #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It also topped charts in Canada & Ireland, notching in the Top 10 in 11 additional countries.

FYI: this movie (a remake of the 1947 film ‘Out Of The Past’) stars Rachel Ward, Jeff Bridges, James Woods, Jane Greer (had starred in the original movie), Alex Karras, Richard Widmark & Dorian Harewood.

#3 ‘Arthur’
From this 1981 film, Cross wrote this song with Burt Bacharach & Carole Bayer Sagar. This single was released 08/14/1981 & peaked in early 1982 at #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 & Adult Contemporary charts. Internationally, it topped 2 other charts (Canada & Norway), while reaching the Top 15 of 8 other charts.

FYI: this movie (the only 1 directed by Steve Gordon, who died in 1982 of a heart attack) stars Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli, Geraldine Fitzgerald & Jill Eikenberry.
